Civilization Prospers with Commerce
The Department of Economics has about 400 majors and dual majors, representing 40% of CMC enrollment. Students can study with CMC professors and with economists at the other Claremont Colleges in the historic town of Claremont east of Los Angeles. Among liberal arts colleges nationally, CMC has the 6th highest average SAT scores, following sister schools Harvey Mudd (1st) and Pomona (3rd). Notable alumni of CMC economics include Orley Ashenfelter, who edited the American Economic Review from 1985 to 2001.
According to quality-adjusted publications, CMC has the top-ranked economics department among liberal arts colleges.
